Anonymous comments not working
After asking people to leave a comment if the podshow is downloading slowly, it seems this blog won't allow anonymous comments!

Its setup to allow anonymous to add list items to the Comments list, and I've turned off content approval as well just to make sure - any other suggestions? (nick@lightningtools.com)

I'm close to giving up and going to subtext!
SharePoint Pod Show with Andrew Connell

Rob Foster had the pleasure of interviewing Andrew Connell when he was over training in Nashville. We've ended up splitting the interview into 2 sections as there was so much good stuff - you can get the first one now from here:

Also - we've had a few people complaining about the download speed of the shows. We're working with our hosting company to figure a few things out - if you are having a bad time downloading the shows though please leave a comment here.

So Thursdays meeting is being held at the LBi offices on Brick Lane, London, which means 3 things:

1, A cool office

2, Beer

3, Curry

Oh and of course I nearly forgot -  2 great presentations covering a WCM real life case study and SharePoint best practises learnt from building WCM sites. You can find more information here:

From looking at the signup numbers it may be another recording breaking attendance!

Creating Web Services for the BDC

We've had a number of support questions about how to build web services, or why other web services won't work well with the business data catalog. Check out the support page put together:

Lightning Storm Forums for SharePoint

It was back in May that I first posted the screen cast for the Silverlight SharePoint Forums so you can tell we've been working on this idea for some time (since around January).

We decided to take a step back from Silverlight for the time being as we had no idea when the Silverlight 2.0 bits would be released. Plus the extra requirements of a client side install and extra web.config edits - we thought we'd wait to see how the enterprise adopts to the Silverlight thing!

So we've gone the web part/html route. We are using asp.net 3.5 due to some of the improvements with the ListView control over DataGrids. This does require a few edits to the web.config but we have shipped a seperate feature with the forums that takes care of this for you (based off the great work published on CodePlex).

The Lightning Storm Forums are using SharePoint Lists for storage, this means it is all nicely integrated and will work fine with various authentication options within SharePoint. For more info, screenshots and screencasts check out the page on the Lightning Tools web site...

And of course there's a trial version you can download.

We're capturing feedback/ideas and comments on the forum on our Connect site:

If you'd like to be involved in the development process send us an email at support@lightningtools.com with the username you have registered on www.lightningtools.com

Announcing the Lightning Jump Web Part

We've got a new web part out today, the Lightning Jump Web Part! The idea is, people always need to get to areas within SharePoint such as HR or Expenses, but they don't want to have to navigate through a complex menu structure to find it. Sure Best Bets for Search work, but that's still a two step process of Searching->Navigating. The Lightning Jump web part makes this a one step process by allowing users to enter a keyword, pressing enter, and navigating them off to the Url.

Keywords can be defined, managed, and are security trimmed. The textbox for entering keywords also have nice ajax type ahead functionality.

Check out the screen cast of the web part working here:

http://support.lightningtools.com/lightningjump.wmv

And find out more info about it on the Lightning Tools site:

http://www.lightningtools.com/lightning-jump-web-part/default.aspx
